On November 23rd I joined a “Read 1 new book a week, for 1-year challenge”. Since then, I’ve read some really good books and I thought it would nice to share what I’ve learned through some weekly posts. Let’s see how consistent I can be in doing this, lol.
I just finished reading “Change Habits, Change Your Life” by Tom Corley. The book details extensive research on the habits of self-made millionaires. The core premise of the book is that our daily habits determine the direct outcome (success or failure) of our lives. No new revelation here.
However, what I did find interesting was that the author’s research concluded that we (consciously or unconsciously) develop our daily habits from four main influences:
1. Our parents
4. Life experience
Some examples of some successful habits mentioned in the book were:
Some unsuccessful bad habits include:
The author did mention that in order to become more successful in life, all a person needs to be is to develop 1 or 2 new good habits while eliminating 1 or 2 bad habits from their life.
When I read that, the first thing I thought was “What is one bad habit that is holding me back from taking my life to the next level?”. The answer for me was simply, stop watching some much YouTube for entertainment purposes. The countless hours I spend watching sports related videos on YouTube, I can invest in more productive things like writing this blog post, working on my online business, playing with my daughter or just simply getting more sleep. (FYI, getting at least 6 hours of sleep/night was another success habit mentioned in the book.
So, I’m curious...what is one bad habit that’s holding you back from taking my life to the next level?”
